Where Did My CAt's Microchip Go?

My cat Demo is almost a year old, and I had him chipped months ago before I adopted him. I know they put it between the shoulder blades, but I can't feel it at all no matter where I search. Im worried that it will get lodged in his muscles or bone or something. Is this normal or should I be worried?
